From vision toimpact
Mirum Pharmaceuticals was founded in November 2018 in the San Francisco Bay Area with a clear goal: to advance a promising therapy for children living with Alagille syndrome, a rare liver disease marked by significant unmet need.
The company began with an investigational program that had been deprioritized by a larger organization despite compelling potential. Recognizing both the scientific opportunity and the urgency within the Alagille syndrome community, Mirum’s founders moved decisively to advance the program—establishing the disciplined execution that continues to define the company today.
That therapy is now LIVMARLI®, approved for the treatment of cholestatic pruritus in Alagille syndrome and progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC), with additional development programs underway.
From the outset, Mirum engaged closely with patients, families, and advocacy leaders to understand the realities of living with rare disease. Those early conversations reinforced a guiding belief: meaningful innovation begins with listening. That principle continues to shape how we develop medicines and evaluate new opportunities—focusing on conditions where the science is strong, the unmet need is clear, and the patient voice remains central.

Today, Mirum is a global rare disease company with team members across North America and Europe. The company has built a portfolio of three approved medicines and a pipeline of clinical programs targeting significant unmet needs. As it continues to grow, Mirum remains focused on expanding access, advancing science, and delivering on our commitment to patients.
