Partnering to advance rare
disease care

Mirum supports grants and sponsorships within our therapeutic areas of focus and programs that advance care for people and communities affected by rare disease.

 

We consider funding requests from:

  • Patient advocacy organizations recognized as 501(c)(3) public charities (or ex-U.S. equivalent)
  • Non-profit organizations focused on healthcare (e.g., community-based organizations)
  • Medical and professional societies
  • Healthcare institutions
  • Regional or local associations
  • Accredited and non-accredited medical education providers
  • Organizations hosting medical, scientific, or patient-focused meetings

 

Applications are accepted year-round. Requests must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the event or program date to allow for review and processing.

Requirements

  • Patient advocacy groups must be recognized by the IRS as a tax exempt, public charity under sections 501(c)(3) based in the U.S., or be a non-profit charitable equivalent for all entities ex-U.S.
  • Comprehensive overview of the program, including description, cover letter, program and operating budgets, most recent year tax return, agenda, etc.

Types of grants and sponsorships that we support

Externally Sponsored Research (ESR)

Independent, investigator-initiated research conceived, sponsored, and conducted by a non-Mirum investigator or collaborative research group. The external party maintains full legal, regulatory, and ethical responsibility for the study.

Medical Education Grants

Support independent educational activities related to disease states within Mirum’s therapeutic areas of focus. The requesting organization retains full control over content and execution. Grants are non-promotional and provided without expectation of commercial benefit.

Patient Advocacy Grants

Support programs led by patient advocacy or community-based organizations that benefit patients, caregivers, and rare disease communities. Funding may support disease awareness initiatives, patient and caregiver education, or community-based services. Recipients maintain full independence over program design and implementation.

Charitable Contributions

Non-promotional financial or in-kind contributions to qualified non-profit organizations (e.g., U.S. 501(c)(3) or equivalent). Donations support the organization’s charitable mission and are provided without expectation of tangible benefit or influence.

Sponsorships & Exhibits

Support for specific events, initiatives, or programs in exchange for defined recognition or visibility (e.g., exhibit space, logo placement, acknowledgment of support).

Congress Support

Funding initiated by Mirum to participate in medical or scientific congresses. May include sponsorship, exhibit space, attendance, or other engagement opportunities that support scientific exchange and professional dialogue.

Independent Charitable Patient Assistance Programs

Support for independent, non-profit patient assistance organizations that determine their own eligibility criteria and funding decisions. These programs help reduce financial or access-related barriers for patients and families.

Externally
sponsored research
programs

Mirum is committed to advancing scientific understanding in rare diseases to positively impact the lives of our patients. Through our Externally Sponsored Research (ESR) program, we support investigator-initiated research aligned with our areas of scientific and clinical interest.

 

Research proposals may include studies involving marketed or investigational products, provided they are consistent with Mirum’s therapeutic focus and contribute meaningful scientific insight.

 

The research concept must be conceived, initiated, conducted, and sponsored by the independent investigator or collaborative research group. Investigators are responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements.

 

Support may include funding, study drug supply, or other agreed-upon resources.

 

ESR Application Requirements:

 

  • Comprehensive study proposal, including background and objectives
  • Detailed budget
  • Current Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the Principal Investigator
  • All submissions must be provided in English
  • If an ESR proposal is approved, Mirum will provide a contract template and a payment schedule aligned with the study timeline, deliverables, and agreed-upon costs
