POSITION SUMMARY
As the Senior Accountant for the Accounting team, you’ll play a key role in the accounting management of clinical trials, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and compliance with official guidelines and requirements. This position will work closely with the Senior Manager, Accounting and collaborate cross functionally with Project Managers, Finance and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, ability to develop and enhance clinical trials accrual models, and a proactive approach to problem solving. This role requires the ability to present financial data effectively, anticipate and resolve issues, and drive process efficiencies. The Senior Accountant must be highly organized, able to work independently, and committed to delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment. You will utilize your existing accounting skills and knowledge, learn new skills, and play a key role as a member of our growing finance and accounting team.
JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Candidate will own the month-end/quarter-end accounting for all clinical trials
- Candidate will partner with the Project Managers (PMs) in Clinical Operations, Clinical Research Organizations (CROs), and other various external vendors to understand clinical trial contractual terms, incurred activities and Mirum’s obligations, with the goal to accurately account and report on clinical trials related fees and services for assigned trials
- Candidate will prepare all support documentation of journal entries and upload to Netsuite, including any financial modeling required to estimate costs that are subject to judgement, or difficult to estimate
- Candidate will maintain control of key areas of the balance sheet including monthly/quarterly reconciliations and documentation support for external and internal audit requirements.
- Candidate will perform high quality, accurate financial and operational analysis for different categories of costs within Clinical Operations over various periods to explain fluctuations and ensure it aligns with clinical trial activity
- Candidate will ensure compliance with SOX requirements, by taking part in all monthly and quarterly control activities around clinical trials
- Candidate will identify and implement improvement initiatives where more financial rigor is required or where efficiencies can be gained as well as participate in any other on-going process improvement initiatives
- Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to participating in special projects, system improvements or ad hoc analyses/projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- Strong US GAAP and compliance experience
- Minimum 4-6 years of related accounting experience
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Hands-on experience in managing general ledger related functions, financial modeling, and variance analysis, ideally within clinical research, biotech or pharmaceutical environment
- Familiarity with accounting software such as NetSuite or similar (NetSuite experience a plus)
- Bachelor or master’s degree in accounting
- Public company experience required
- Clinical trial accounting experience is highly preferred
- CPA preferred

The salary range for this position is $123,000 to $134,000 USD. Compensation will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to; skill set, years of experience, and the employee’s geographic location. Please note that the required compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits unless otherwise provided.
